January 2007 - newsletter

Hi all,

It’s been a strange January here in Slovenia. Where temperatures should have been -15 degrees C, they were +15. Still we finally got some snow in the end. New image galleries for January are as follows: Click on the gallery links for better quality images.

Skiing and snowboarding on Vogel Mountain,
near lake Bohinj in the Triglav National Park.
This resort is one of the most beautiful in Slovenia.

Lake Bohinj is the largest lake in Slovenia and sits wedged into a dead end valley in the Julian Alps.
In winter the lake freezes over, but so far not this year.
In winter or summer this area is one of the most beautiful and unspoiled in the country.

January also saw the women’s Golden Fox World Slalom and Giant Slalom events moved to Kranjska Gora from its normal location in the east of Slovenia, due to shortage of snow. However the event went off without a hitch.

The brown bear is another inhabitant of Slovenia,
and unfortunately not easy to spot in the wild.
The Ljubljana zoo has a few though.
